The Most Common Phishing Attacks

Phishing attacks are the practice of sending fraudulent communication that appears to come from a reputable person or source that is often used to steal credential logins, sensitive information, or install malware and comprise systems.

Spear phishing attacks are aimed at a specific person or organization. Cybercriminals search the internet for information about who they are targeting, colleagues, and key employees in their organizations.

Phishing red flags: Suspicious email address or an email from C -level executive, misspelled words, scare tactics, and urgent request to click on a provided hyperlink or opening an attachment.

Mobile device phishing attacks

Vishing attacks: Is a scam received by voicemail where the cybercriminal claims to represent a well-known entity like the IRS, social security office, or banking institution.

Smishing is sending a scam with an embedded malicious link to click by SMS texting. The messages often contain an offer for a free product or an urgent alert regarding banking or other sensitive information.

Smishing and Vishing red flags: Suspicious number, urgent request for action such as to click on a link or call back number.
